Mineralogi merupakan khusus asas untuk geologi. Mineral bukan isotrop pada skala mikroskopik menjadi fokus utama khusus ini. Permulaannya, pelajar akan didedahkan dengan asa kristalografi, sistem hablur dan kimia hablur. Pada peringkat berikutnya, pelajar akan diperkenelkan dengan kaedah analitikal yang menggunakan mikroskop berpengutup untuk mengenalpasti cirian optik mineral. Di akhir khusus ini, pelajar seharusnya mempunyai kemampuan untuk mengenalpasti jenis mineral berdasarkan cirian optiknya serta berkebolehan untuk menghubungkaitkan kepelbagaian cirian optik mineral dengan struktur hablurnya. Kursus ini melibatkan kuliah serta amali.
Mineralogy is a foundation course for Geology. This course will focus more on nonisotropic minelals at the microscopic scale. Initially the students will be exposed with crystallograpic princples, crystal systems and crystal chemistry. In the following step, students will be introduce with analytical methods which used the polarizing microscope for the determination of minerals optical properties. Towards the end of the course, The student should have the ability to identify the minerals based on their optical properties and have an appreciation to relates the variations of the minerals optical properties and have an appreciation to relates the variation of the minerals optical behaviours with their crystal structures. This course wii cover lectures and laboratories.
